Products from Otter-Messer GmbH

The Otter company was founded around 1840 in a small cottage – a traditional water-powered grinding shop – at the Königsmühle in Solingen. Its name comes from the fish otters that used to live on the banks of the streams and rivers in the Bergisches Land. These adorn the products as the company's logo. The pocket knives and fixed blade knives are made in Solingen using traditional methods. Even today, the pocket knives and fixed-blade knives are carefully handmade and sharpened. The range includes knives for leisure, household, garden, and hunting. Mostly equipped with carbon blades, these have excellent edge retention and are evidence of robust quality – Made in Solingen / Germany.

OTTER Sailor’s Knife

Knife in professional quality, made in Solingen.The blade is made of hardened special steel, available in cast steel (carbon) or in stainless steel. Cast steel blades can rust a bit, but stay sharp much longer than stainless steel knives.The wooden handle is made of local smoked oak and riveted to the blade. A hole for a lanyard is provided in the knife handle.Included is a belt sheath made of solid leather with side stitching and an additional sewn-in leather strip into which the sharp blade can slide without damaging the sheath.

The sailors' pocket knife. Often also called London knife, because on English sailing ships in the past only blade shapes were admitted that were not suitable as thrusting weapons.High quality blades from the traditional manufacturer OTTER/Solingen made of cast steel (C75) and stainless steel (1.4034). Cast steel blades can rust, but remain sharp longer than stainless steel blades. The handle is made of local smoked oak with an embedded stainless steel anchor and hole for a safety lanyard.
