The open loudhailer, nowadays usually referred to as a megaphone concentrates the sound and directs it specifically in one direction so that the intelligibility of spoken language in particular is improved even over greater distances. The speaker places the smaller of the two openings in front of the mouth, while turning the larger one toward the listeners. Well suited, for example, for training rowers or sailors. The TOPLICHT megaphone is made of polished sheet brass.
