Whether Bermuda rig or a gaff rig - most classic yachts and traditional sailing vessels use authentic wooden masts. Even classic motor yachts are equipped with wooden motorboat masts. Wooden masts and spars, such as boom, jib-boom, gaff, topmast, staysail boom or spinnaker booms can be made of solid wood or glued from several layers. Some are provided with a hollow profile. To produce a reliable rig, a large number of connecting parts and metal fittings have to be mounted. For masts, there are mast bands for attaching the shrouds, stays and halyards, for booms, there are gooseneck fittings, boom fittings, reefing claws and boom crutch fittings. Sliding up and down of gaff boom and gaff sail is made possible by gaff claw, mast hoops and parrel beads consisting of oval wooden spheres. Concerning the headsails, spinnaker boom fittings and furling jib systems can be considered.
Traditional mast hoops for bending the luff of a gaff sail on the mast.Made on an English boat yard from steamed ash wood ledges in layers, hot bent and oiled. Because the hoops come not glued, but only temporarily secured with a bolt, they can simply be mounted around the standing mast and riveted with the enclosed copper rivets on board. The hoops are treated with linseed oil. We recommend to varnish or oil treat them before installation. The inner diameter of the mast hoops should be approx. 20% larger than the maximum mast diameter.
Made from turned ash wood, oval wood sphericals to make a parrel line for sails and gaffs. They can be strung onto a parrel line.Unfinished. To protect them, the parrel beads should be soaked in linseed or wood oil.Variations in the dimensions, due to the manufacturing process, are possible.
Made from ash wood.On flat-bottomed boats, half-moons serve to raise the mainsail throat with help from the halyard on downwind courses. The half moon is attached to the lower parrel line between the parrel beads, then the halyard is laid on the half moon.
The luff of a (gaff rigged) main sail is lashed to the mast with these wooden mast hoops.Traditional rings made from cold-bent beech-wood with long, overlapping openings, locked by stainless steel bolts.Suggestion for size determination:Inner diameter of the mast ring should be about 20% greater than the maximum mast diameter.
Ring for lugger rigging, to hoist the yard (gaff).Beautiful simple bronze fitting, welded, cleanly sewn by hand with leather. The halyard suspension is constructed in such a way that the ring stays approximately horizontal under load and thus has little friction.D2 should be approximately 1.2 times the size of the largest mast diameter.
Classic mast-fitting set for round masts and round, oval, or square booms.Made in England, from high-quality marine bronze. The mast fitting is made up of two strong bolted rings of cast bronze, polished, and the screwed-on gooseneck. The (undrilled) boom fitting is cast in a single piece and can be either embedded in the boom or attached to the outer boom. The connected gooseneck is also a cleanly made cast piece. We offer this fitting mounted as a complete set, with a welded-on reefing hook fitting (for two reefs).D2 is the mast diameter. This fitting has a hand-crafted design and finish, and matches very well with our gaff saddle fitting.Other sizes and combinations are available on demand.
Traditional gaff claw (claw fitting). The sturdy gaff saddle has a hand sewn leather cover, which protects the mast finish and may be greased to ease sliding. The gaff end fitting is cast of marine bronze and hand-polished.Clew fitting with ring for the halyard and for the sail, made of welded bronze, shiny polished. This hand-finished fitting is a functional piece of art for any traditional boat or yacht. The complete set matches our mast and boom fittings in size and finish.D2 should not be less than 1.15 times the size of the largest mast diameter. Not appropriate for high peak or Gunter riggings. The inclination of the gaff should not be less than 40°.Other sizes and combinations are available on demand.

Deliverable in two versions: a small one made from brass, cleanly polished or a bigger one made from aluminium bronze
Functional bronze gooseneck applicable for small yachts.Matte-rolled finish. Track rails to screw on, car with holding screw as well as square spike that can be plugged on a wooden or aluminium boom.Track: L = 300 mm, W = 22 mm. Spike: 12 x 12 mm, L = 100 mm.This fitting allows the mainsail to be reefed by rotating the boom. The square socket in the boom (13 x 13 mm) has to be set up by the owner.
This traditional three-part fitting of hand-polished cast bronze allows sails to be reefed by rolling them around the boom (simple roller reefing). Intended for yachts and small cruisers (with mainsail sizes up to about 10 square meters). The complete fitting is put together from three pieces. The boom can be removed from the tetrahedral fitting. To reef, the boom is simply pulled aft off the fitting and turned. The pieces must be installed separately: 1) Boom fitting forward (tack) for the the boom's diameter D1 = 50 mm with suitable space for the tetrahedron of the gooseneck fitting. 2) Boom fitting aft (clew) with the rolling frame for the topping lift and sheet; 3) Gooseneck with tetrahedral fitting, sized for various mast diameters: D2 = 50 to 87 mm.
The HIGHFIELD lever is a reliable bronze backstay turnbuckle. An absolutely classic fitting, built the same way for the past 100 years. Not only robust hand quality by the British manufacturer DAVEY & Co., but also a piece of art on any deck. The whole fitting is made by hand from bronze, sand-cast and extensively hand-polished and hand mounted. The backstay wire must be pressed or spliced onto the bronze thimble. With the clamping lever, the wire can then be brought down tight to the deck.In the tensioned position, the wire sits below the pivot of the turnbuckle. Thus the locking device is automatically secured. The optional two-piece release fitting (must be ordered separately, available for size 1) allows the (loose) backstay wire to be hooked directly to the turnbuckle.
The rigging cleat, also called a thumb cleat, shoulder cleat or hound is a traditional mast fitting. It is used where the stay is spliced into an eye around the mast and keeps the eye from slipping down. The receiving width is 12mm. Heavy and solid, the fitting is made of cast bronze with a fine matt tumbled surface and has five countersunk holes with a diameter of 5 mm.For an additional charge, the fitting can also be supplied hollowed, i.e. precisely adapted to the required mast diameter. Just ask, we will be happy to advise you.
Brass cleat with curved base for direct attachment to the spar (bearing radius 41 mm). The traditional American-style sheet shock absorber is cast from solid bronze. The ring is attached to long V-brackets. The rubber rings attached centrally round the axle dampen the shock of the sheet block and thereby protect the fittings and the joints.Fastened from below with bolts (M20) to be screwed into the base.Surface: fine matt tumbled.Other sizes on request.
The sheet horse made of high tensile marine bronze is an eye-catcher on any ship with classic, traditional look, e.g. dutch sailing barges, open cutters, dinghys or classic yachts. The classic fitting is used for traversing the main or jib sheet when tacking. Beautifully designed with deck plates and stops. The rod carries threads for bolting to the deck. To accommodate the foot block of the main or jib sheet, the sheet horse has a waist-shaped slide, whose wide design ensures controlled passing. Several application possibilities are conceivable. For example, the fitting can be used on the cockpit floor or on the aft deck as a mainsheet horse, or in front of the mast as a fore-sheet horse. Another use is mounting it at the stern above the tiller, as is common on smaller dutch sailing barges. The sheet horse can be supplied in various sizes.
A CENTURY OF WYKEHAM MARTIN!This roller-furling fitting is a piece of British yachting history.
