A log or ship log is a nautical instrument for measuring the speed of a ship. Traditional ship-logs, such as patent logs, taffrail logs with vanes or yacht logs with impeller provide speed values related to the speed through the water. Multifunctional electronic speedometers for installation on the instrument panel are equipped with an integrated GPS antenna.
