IMO safety signs identify escape routes, life-saving appliances, fire-fighting equipment and other safety-related facilities on board. Standardised symbols and colours help crew, passengers and emergency personnel recognise equipment quickly without relying on extensive written information. The markings required depend on the vessel, its equipment and the applicable regulations. The signs offered by TOPLICHT follow SOLAS, IMO Resolution A.1116(30) and ISO 24409-2.
The range includes signs for lifejackets, lifebuoys, liferafts, EPIRBs, radar transponders, embarkation ladders and other life-saving appliances, together with escape-route and emergency-exit signs. Fire pumps, fire-alarm push buttons, hose boxes and other fire-fighting equipment can also be marked, while mandatory signs cover requirements such as wearing hearing protection. Colours correspond to the respective safety function: life-saving and escape signs use a green background, mandatory signs blue and fire-fighting equipment signs red, while fire-control symbols are displayed on a white background.
The signs are made from 1 mm plastic sheet and are waterproof, self-adhesive and photoluminescent. After exposure to light, the symbols therefore remain visible for a period if normal lighting fails. TOPLICHT carries numerous designs in the 150 x 150 mm format, with further signs available on request.
