Opinel is a French family-owned company based in Chambéry, producing knives since 1890. Founded by Joseph Opinel in Savoie, the company evolved from a small forge into a globally recognized manufacturer of cutting tools. The distinctive Opinel pocket knife with a wooden handle and the crowned hand trademark was registered in 1909. Today, Opinel produces approximately 6.5 million knives annually and employs around 180 people.

The product range includes pocket knives, kitchen knives, table knives, gardening tools, and children's knives. The classic Opinel pocket knife is available in various sizes and features the Virobloc® system, a rotating safety ring that locks the blade. Kitchen knife lines such as "Les Forgés 1890" and "Intempora" offer ergonomic handles and precise blades for daily use. Additionally, Opinel offers special knives for children with rounded tips and non-slip handles to ensure safety while cutting.

OPINEL knive with rescue whistle, shackle opener and part-serrated bladeA specially designed model of the popular French knife by OPINEL, developed especially for maritime, outdoor and emergency employment. In contrast to the standard OPINEL knifes the blade is made from rust proof, robust Sandvik steel 12C27. It is equipped with a recess for opening shackles. The blade is lockable after the OPINEL principle VIROBLOC, with the far end sharpened specifically jagged for cutting rope and cord of different fibres quickly and safely in an emergency. The near part of the blade is cleanly sharpened for smooth cuts.The handle is made from strong plastic with an integrated rescue whistle (110 dB max).
