HEMPEL CONVERSION Primer is a two-component epoxy resin-based adhesion primer. It was developed to facilitate the change from conventional antifoulings to the biocide-free thin-film antifouling HEMPASPEED TF from HEMPEL. The primer can be applied to existing antifoulings (including International VC-17m) as well as to one- and two-component primers, provided the surface is intact and stable. Caution: The primer does NOT provide corrosion protection, but merely acts as an adhesion promoter. Prime uncoated surfaces with a corrosion protection primer beforehand. Two-component primers based on epoxy resin (e.g. HEMPEL Light Primer) are recommended.

- Substrate: Existing antifouling in good condition (not suitable for bare surfaces)
- Surface preparation:
- Wet sand old antifouling with water and waterproof paper
- Rinse with fresh water, clean and allow to dry
- Surface must be clean, dry and free of grease
- Topcoat: HEMPEL's Silic One Tiecoat, Hempaspeed TF
- Coverage: approx. 15 m²/l at 25 µm dry film thickness
- Thinner: Do not thin
- Application method: Brush, roller
- Mixing ratio: 3:1 (Base:Hardener by volume)
- Pot life: 8 hrs at 20 °C
- Drying times at 20 °C: Dust dry after 1¼ hrs; recoatable after 2 hrs (Silic One Tiecoat), 30 min (Hempaspeed TF); fully cured after 7 days
