Universally applicable epoxy primer in protective coating systems for steel with excellent adhesion properties.
SIGMACOVER 280 is a two-component, aluminum-pigmented, polyamide-cured universal primer for above-water applications. Suitable for corrosion protection of metal surfaces and as a primer for paint systems on decks and ballast tanks. Can be painted over with most alkyd resin, chlorinated rubber, vinyl and two-component epoxy resin and polyurethane coatings. Cures even at low temperatures (5°C).

- Substrate: Steel, galvanized steel, stainless steel, aluminium, thermally sprayed metal (TSM), shop primer, concrete
- Surface preparation:
- Steel: Blast clean to ISO-Sa2½ (dry or wet), profile 30–75 µm
- Galvanized steel/stainless steel: Sweep blast per SSPC P-16
- Concrete: min. 28 days cured, max. 4.5% moisture, free from laitance
- All surfaces must be clean, dry and free of contaminants
- Topcoat: 2C epoxy and polyurethane coatings (e.g. SIGMACOVER, SIGMADUR)
- Coverage: approx. 11.4 m²/l at 50 µm dry film thickness
- Thinner: THINNER 91-92
- Application method: Brush, roller, airless or conventional spray
- Drying times at 20 °C: Touch dry after 2 hrs, recoatable after 2 hrs, fully cured after 7 days
