YACHTCARE Antifouling Primer is an elastic, one-component primer for underwater hull coating on GRP, metal and wood.
The metal particles contained in the primer form a mesh of scales, which provides high-quality protection against penetrating moisture. It is also suitable as a barrier primer and adhesion promoter when changing antifouling. The antifouling primer serves as a base for all commercially available hard and self-polishing antifoulings, but not for antifoulings that contain metallic copper, such as PTFE thin-layer antifouling.

Technical data

  • Substrates: GRP, wood, steel, aluminum, existing commercially available antifoulings
  • Pre-treatment: The substrate must be clean, dry and free of grease. All loose components or damaged old coatings must be removed beforehand. The substrate must be sanded.
  • Application: Apply in dry weather and at temperatures between 0°C and +30°C. Do not apply in direct sunlight. Do not apply in direct sunlight. When reapplying the primer as a moisture barrier on the substrate, we recommend applying 4-5 coats. We recommend 1-2 coats as a barrier primer when replacing antifouling.
  • Follow-up coat: all common antifoulings except thin-layer antifoulings
  • Coverage: approx. 10 m²/l
  • Dilution: Not recommended
  • Application method: Brush, fur roller
  • Drying times at 20°C: Can be painted over with itself: after approx. 4-6 hours, can be painted over with antifouling: after approx. 6 hours

EPIFANES CR Antifouling Primer is a universal underwater ship primer based on chlorinated rubber. Suitable for use on steel, aluminum, wood and polyester. It dries quickly and can be applied to many pre-treated substrates and old coatings. The chlorinated rubber contained in the primer makes it permanently elastic, allowing it to bridge the natural movement of wood, for example.Technical dataSubstrates: GRP, wood, steel, aluminum, existing commercially available antifoulings Pre-treatment: Fouling and adhesions on old coatings must be removed. The substrate must be clean, degreased, dry, well sanded and free of dust. Wash off salt or other water-soluble contaminants with fresh water. HEMPEL CONVERSION Primer is a two-component epoxy resin-based adhesion primer. It was developed to facilitate the change from conventional antifoulings to the biocide-free thin-film antifouling HEMPASPEED TF from HEMPEL. The primer can be applied to existing antifoulings (including International VC-17m) as well as to one- and two-component primers, provided the surface is intact and stable. Attention: The primer does NOT provide corrosion protection, but merely acts as an adhesion promoter.Coverage: approx. 15 m²/literSubstrate pre-treatment: New build: Prime uncoated surfaces with a corrosion protection primer beforehand. Two-component primers based on epoxy resin (e.g. HEMPEL Light Primer) are recommended.Existing antifouling (if load-bearing and intact): Sand the surface with wet sandpaper and water. Rinse the substrate. Clean and dry the surface.Application: Apply a full coat of HEMPEL Conversion Primer. Due to its low viscosity, the Conversion Primer is very thin, so any runners should be smoothed out as quickly as possible. The final coat (e.g. HEMPEL HEMPASPEED TF) can then be applied. LEFANT Epoxy Primer is specially designed for underwater use and can be applied to gelcoat, plastic, steel, aluminum, sterndrives and propellers.The two-component epoxy resin-based primer is suitable for pretreatment of antifoulings such as LEFANT T-Coat, it is oil and chemical resistant and protects against moisture penetration, preventing osmosis. Thanks to the long recoat intervals, it can be easily applied and cures even at low temperatures (min. 5 °C). Available in white or black.For detailed application instructions, please refer to the product data sheet. Application on painted substrates: Old one-component coatings and primers should be removed, two-component primers in good condition can be coarsely sanded (grit 60-80). Then clean thoroughly. If necessary, level uneven areas with epoxy filler.When recoating steel hulls, the surface should be sandblasted or coarsely sanded and painted with a diluted coat of epoxy primer (20-30% diluted with Lefant Multi thinner) immediately after sanding. Then apply up to three more coats and subsequently level out any unevenness and defects with putty.
