The SILIC ONE developed by HEMPEL is a copper- and biocide-free fouling release coating system based on silicone and hydrogel. Due to its special surface properties, it makes it more difficult for fouling-forming organisms to adhere and also makes their removal easier when moving through the water or by manual cleaning by hand. Suitable for fresh, salt, and brackish water as well as for inland waters. Particularly recommended in areas where biocides may not be used or may only be used to a limited extent (including in the Netherlands). Suitable for plywood, GRP, steel, or aluminum hulls, for fast motorboats as well as sailboats.
How it works: Polymers contained in the coating react with water at the surface and form an invisible protective layer, a so-called hydrogel between the hull surface and the water. For microorganisms, this layer is perceived as a liquid, so that they do not settle on the hull in the first place. The micro-rough structure and the smooth surface tension also prevent a firm anchoring of fouling-forming organisms, so that they fall off again through manual cleaning or when traveling quickly through the water.
Application: With the help of HEMPEL CONVERSION PRIMER, SILIC ONE can also be applied to existing antifouling coatings (in good condition). For this, one coat of CONVERSION PRIMER and then one coat of TIECOAT are applied. For a new coating, priming with HEMPEL LIGHT PRIMER is recommended and then one coat of TIECOAT is applied. For the initial application, two coats of SILIC ONE are required; afterwards, one maintenance coat per season is sufficient for refreshing, if the hull is kept dry in winter. In the water, however, the coating lasts up to 3 years. No more than 30 days should pass between painting and launching the hull. Application with roller or brush is possible; the surface temperature for processing and curing should be at least 10°C.
Technical Data
