LeFANT T-COAT is a biocide-free coating for underwater hulls based on epoxy resin. It forms a hard, smooth surface that makes it difficult for growth such as algae to adhere and also protects the hull from moisture penetration. LeFANT T-COAT is free of silicones and metals and is suitable for all waters. If fouling adheres to the surface, it can be easily removed mechanically using cleaning sponges, brushes or hull cleaning systems.

  • Pre-treatment: Existing antifouling and one-component paints must be completely removed. Existing epoxy systems in good condition can be retained. For better adhesion and sealing of porous, sandblasted or rough surfaces and for recoating, an epoxy-based primer, such as LEFANT Epoxy Primer, is recommended (first coat diluted with 20-30% LEFANT Multi-Thinner).
  • Application method: Brush or roller
  • Application temperature: Minimum 7 °C, an ideal application temperature is 15-25 °C. To improve conditions for application at lower temperatures, use for example a heating element that can be placed close to the surface and then place the paint can in a bath of heated water.
  • Application: Mix the primer with the desired color additive, add hardener and stir thoroughly. One paint pot contains 55 ml of paint and is sufficient for a 750 ml can. 2-3 coats (approx. 100 microns/coat) are recommended for a new structure, 3-4 coats for the color white. For a particularly smooth “racing surface”, the hardened surface can be sanded smooth with wet sandpaper.

LEFANT Epoxy Primer is specially designed for underwater use and can be applied to gelcoat, plastic, steel, aluminum, sterndrives and propellers.The two-component epoxy resin-based primer is suitable for pretreatment of antifoulings such as LEFANT T-Coat, it is oil and chemical resistant and protects against moisture penetration, preventing osmosis. Thanks to the long recoat intervals, it can be easily applied and cures even at low temperatures (min. 5 °C). Available in white or black.For detailed application instructions, please refer to the product data sheet. Application on painted substrates: Old one-component coatings and primers should be removed, two-component primers in good condition can be coarsely sanded (grit 60-80). Then clean thoroughly. If necessary, level uneven areas with epoxy filler.When recoating steel hulls, the surface should be sandblasted or coarsely sanded and painted with a diluted coat of epoxy primer (20-30% diluted with Lefant Multi thinner) immediately after sanding. Then apply up to three more coats and subsequently level out any unevenness and defects with putty.
