ICOM IC-M85E UKW PMR handheld radio
The IC-M85E is the hybrid model in the ICOM model range.
In addition to the existing marine radio channels, the device can also use the company radio channels assigned to your company or organization. These are programmed into the device by your specialist dealer.
PMR range 136-174 MHz
In addition to VHF marine channels , the IC-M85E can also communicate on PMR channels between 136 and 174 MHz *. For this purpose, it has 100 programmable PMR channels on which CTCSS frequencies and DTCS codes can also be used.

If you have an ATIS number for inland radio, you can store it in your handheld radio. In countries such as the Netherlands or Belgium, the handheld radio may also be used without restrictions in inland areas.
In Germany (or France), on the other hand, it is forbidden to use handheld radios in a traffic area other than "radio on board" and this in turn is taboo for small vessels (<20m). This means that recreational boaters are de facto prohibited from using a handheld radio in the German inland area.
Anyone who does so anyway is committing an administrative offense (offence no. 22.240510). This may result in a warning fine (55 euros) or even a higher fine.

Sturdy design meets IP67 and MIL standards
In accordance with IP67(International ProtectionCode), the IC-M85E is dustproof and can be submerged in water to a depth of 1 m for up to 30 minutes. In addition, MIL-STD-810 tests (technical military standard for equipment) are carried out.
700 mW AF power
Despite the compact housing, the audio amplifier of the IC-M85E delivers 700 mW AF power at the loudspeaker to ensure clear and loud communication, especially in noisy environments.
Automatic emergency alarm tone
The handheld radio offers three emergency-relevant functions: for MOB (man overboard), man-down and lone worker. If they are activated, the IC-M85E emits an alarm tone* when the corresponding emergency occurs.
* The alarm tone always comes from the loudspeaker of the handheld radio, i.e. even if an optional loudspeaker microphone is connected. (No emergency calls are made to other radios with these functions)
Direct operation via the multifunction button
Switching between the two channel groups (marine <> PMR) can be assigned to the multi-function button on the top of the housing.* Pressing and holding this button switches the locking function on and off.
* This configuration can be carried out together with the programming of the PMR channels.
