Permanently elastic, slow-drying, single-component thick grey film paint that can be applied to surfaces preserved with FLUID FILM Liquid A and prevents washout. This calcium phosphate compound dissolved in resin provides effective corrosion protection for all bare, rusted, or previously painted ferrous metals. PERMA FILM AL is suitable for ballast water tanks, offshore structures, machine components, and hard-to-derust areas such as the bilge.
The lamellar pigment structure forms a barrier against water and oxygen, even on incompletely derusted or damp substrates. The paint can also be applied at low temperatures and is particularly resistant to saltwater.
Surface preparation: Clean the surface (high-pressure wash) and remove loose particles with a wire brush. Surfaces may be surface damp but without water droplets. A thin coat of FLUID FILM LIQUID A is recommended as a primer. This combination keeps the system flexible, cures on the surface, and combines the positive properties of FLUID FILM’s penetration capability with those of a solid protective layer.
Application: The product can be applied by airless spraying, brush, or roller. PERMA FILM can be processed directly from the container; thinning is not necessary at temperatures above 15 °C. For a new coating, apply two layers; the first with 150, the second with 250 µm wet film thickness (equivalent to 100 and 150 µm dry film thickness).
During application and drying, sufficient ventilation must be ensured to guarantee uniform drying. A respirator must be worn when spraying. The drying process can be accelerated by using warm air.
Technical Data
- Application area: Coating of ballast water tanks, offshore installations, machines, equipment, steel surfaces
- Substrate: Steel, also hand-derusted (St 2/St 3) or HD-cleaned (Wa 2); dry or damp surfaces
- Pretreatment: optional: FLUID FILM LIQUID A (Art.No. 2717-001)
- Coverage: approx. 2.5 m²/l at 250 µm dry film thickness
- Thinning: optional, at temperatures below +15 °C: Special cable cleaner PF-Solvent
- Application method: Brush, roller, airless (professional users)
- Drying times (at 20 °C): water-resistant after approx. 30 hrs at 200 µm film thickness
Further information on application can be found in the Technical Data Sheet under 'Downloads'.
