The purpose of a whipping is to prevent the end of a rope from fraying. There are several modern methods to set up a whipping, such as shrink whippings or liquid whippings. For the traditionally proven method of a common or stitched whipping, good whipping twine is required. It can also be used for sewing or repairing sails. Toplicht offers a variety of simple, waxed, tarred or greased sail, stitching and whipping twines, which are made either of organic hemp fibres or synthetic fibres like polyester, Dyneema and UV-resistant polypropylene (PP). Thin lines are suitable for many applications onboard or at home, e.g. for fastening small parts, or for use as a flag line. They can also be used for braiding and knotting. We offer them in spools and many colours. Besides, we have traditional lines made of organic fibres, such as tarred hemp cord for serving wires and for all rigging work on traditional sailing ships.
