Sound signals and day shapes indicate a vessel’s condition, manoeuvres or particular circumstances to other traffic. The signalling equipment that must be carried and displayed depends on vessel length, area of operation and the applicable regulations. In seagoing and inland commercial shipping, this includes sound signalling systems, ship’s bells and gongs as well as balls, cones, cylinders and diamond-shaped day signals.
TOPLICHT supplies electronic and compressed-air sound signalling systems for different vessel sizes. Depending on the design, signals are generated by pressure-chamber loudspeakers or pneumatic horns, while control panels can operate prescribed sequences and fog signals. The range also includes approved ship’s bells and signal gongs, together with compressors, solenoid valves, compressed-air tubing and associated components. Selected systems carry BSH, MED or other product-specific approvals.
For visual signalling, the range includes folding day shapes intended for use in accordance with COLREG requirements and inland-navigation regulations. These include black and coloured signal balls and cones as well as cylinders and diamond shapes. Their frames are made from galvanised steel rings covered with mesh material, providing the required form while keeping wind resistance down. After use, the shapes can be folded flat for storage on board.
