Shackles are used to connect rope, chain, wire rope and fittings and are common connecting components in commercial shipping. Selection depends on the shackle shape, pin arrangement, dimensions and safe working load. D shackles are primarily suited to loads acting in one direction, while bow shackles provide more room for several attachment points or connections that require some movement. For load-bearing applications, the stated safe working load (SWL) must correspond to the intended duty.
TOPLICHT carries forged, hot-dip galvanised shackles in D and bow form. The range includes high-strength versions with screw pins or eye bolts as well as shackles with safety bolts secured by nut and split pin. The latter are used particularly for long-term or permanent connections and where the pin may rotate under load. At comparable strength, the high-strength versions have a lower weight than corresponding DIN shackles, and the SWL is marked on the shackle.
The range also includes forged shackles to DIN 82101 with flat eye bolts, used among other applications in standing rigging. Depending on the version, the high-strength shackles meet the requirements of EN 13889 or US Federal Specification RR-C-271. Test certificates or works certificates can be supplied for selected versions.
