Epoxied for a wartertight design, copper riveted, fittings and bolts of stainless steel (V4A). The axle is protected against falling out by a polished stainless steel plate.This type of block-design was first introduced by the "Karl Mailand" blockmaker in the 1950s, when cotton sheets started to become common on yachts.Because of the small diameter of the sheaves, the given maximum rope diameter is only for braided rope. Three-strand rope should be significantly thinner than the block, or the block larger.The safe working load (SWL) is 1/4 of the breaking load (BRL).
