Wind-driven extractor ventilators use the airflow above deck to remove air from interior spaces or ventilation ducts. Rotary ventilators require no electric drive: the wind turns the ventilator head, creating negative pressure that draws air out through the duct. Ventilation capacity therefore depends on wind speed as well as the size of the unit, duct cross-section and installation arrangement.
TOPLICHT supplies rotary and extractor ventilators in aluminium and stainless steel for commercial vessels. One type operates on the Flettner principle and combines an aluminium-sheet body with a stainless-steel shaft and protected ball bearings. It is rain-resistant and can be installed on flat roofs or supplied for different pipe connections. Stainless-steel extractor ventilators are also available with a ball-bearing, hinged head driven by the wind. Different sizes accommodate a range of pipe diameters, while one version has a square base plate for rectangular ventilation openings.
The stainless-steel units can additionally be used as draught-enhancing flue-gas ventilators for stoves and are designed to resist downdraught. When selecting a ventilator, the required extraction capacity, duct dimensions, mounting surface and intended use for room ventilation or flue extraction should therefore all be considered.
