A reinterpretation of the well-known SÖRENSEN storm glass, designed by Peter Jessen for DELITE and handcrafted in Denmark.Encased in a delicate housing made of brushed stainless steel is a glass filled with a camphor-alcohol solution, which reacts sensitively to fluctuations in temperature and air pressure and forms crystalline structures. These structures can be used to predict the weather for the next one to two days.The use of storm glasses in seafaring has been known since around 1750. Charles Darwin, who sailed the world's oceans aboard the HMS BEAGLE under Captain Fitzroy from 1831 - 1836, was the most famous user of this unique instrument.Nowadays, much more reliable instruments such as barometers are used on board, but this delicate instrument is certainly suitable as a high-quality, decorative gift. A matching rosewood gift box (item no. 5508-105) is available separately. Use and interpretationFor optimal use, the storm glass should be hung in a cool room. Crystal formation occurs with a delay (for the next 24 to 48 hours) and should not be understood as an exact weather forecast. In stable weather conditions, the liquid usually remains clear, while cloudiness, flakes or crystals indicate possible changes in the weather.
