The HIGHFIELD lever is a reliable bronze backstay turnbuckle.
An absolutely classic fitting, built the same way for the past 100 years. Not only robust hand quality by the British manufacturer DAVEY & Co., but also a piece of art on any deck.
The whole fitting is made by hand from bronze, sand-cast and extensively hand-polished and hand mounted.
The backstay wire must be pressed or spliced onto the bronze thimble. With the clamping lever, the wire can then be brought down tight to the deck.
In the tensioned position, the wire sits below the pivot of the turnbuckle. Thus the locking device is automatically secured.
The optional two-piece release fitting (must be ordered separately, available for size 1) allows the (loose) backstay wire to be hooked directly to the turnbuckle.
